Many events have occurred in the last week on the Zone BBS site, some funny, others perhaps a bit over-the-top. First, I'd like to make a few points as to what happened.
As you may have guessed, the original intent was to carry out the joke with community leaders until April 1. That, obviously, did not totally materialize. We were beaten at our own game.
Did the community leaders know? Yes, of course they all knew, including our temporary leaders. As many correctly stated, it wouldn't be fair to toy with the minds of people who have given so much for this site. Nobody, including Chris N or Mel, really meant anything by what was said this week. It was all a part of the fun.
Did we take it a bit far? Perhaps, but we sometimes do things over-the-top on this site.
But, it can't be an April Fools joke if it's not on April Fools Day.
We thought of this, and started early because you would probably be much more suspicious if this magically happened on midnight on April 1.
Do we regret this? No, though the ending wasn't as we anticipated. We won't hold anything you said against us, and we move on.
But, what about the announcement?
Well, you see, the original announcement was to end the joke and move forward. But even though the joke ended early, we would still like to make our original announcement.
We will be giving everyone on this site free premium membership through the next week. This includes most features normally restricted to premiums, minus extended audio profiles.
Also, if you are logged in, we will be giving random amounts of points to you throughout April.
Thanks so much to all of you for your support, and a big thanks to our community leaders and to my better admin half for making this site what it is today.

Nice!! The only thing that sort of gave it all away, at least for me, was the fact that the changes were so drastic. I assumed it was either one HELL of an April Fool's joke, or Admin had lost his mind.
I tell ya one thing this joke drug me in like a fish on a fishing pole. I admit at first I was pissed and wrote some nasty things about J, then it dawned on me because it happened rather fast. That was the only give away. Now if this hads happened long before March then I kight have not figured it out.
The CL's that were discharged for this perioed of time didn't display their anger as well as they should've.
Anyhow this was well... I can't really think of a word for this but interesting, I guess. It's over I guess we can later return to those boards and laugh our asses off once it really settles down around here.
Yes, the random points thing sounds interesting and the non-members can experience life as a premium for a week.

I knew it all along that it was a joke. Like I said on my board topic about the whole thing.. It was just way too obvious to me. Now maybe most of the members couldn't put two and two together but I was able to.
I like the idea of being premium for just one week. Gives me a chance to enjoy stuff that I'd normally never see on here.
hahahhahah i loved this joke. It was funny. and guess what. I didn't fall for it. i was playing along. I figured it was an april fools joke.

I really think it's time to let this whole thing die, boards and all, but I do want to ask why everyone now feels the need to say how funny it is that everyone got so worked up over it while they knew it was a joke all along because it was so obvious. Who really cares if you believed it or not? Lots of people did. That's the point, even if it wasn't the very best execution. I've seen several people today claim how they were positive all along that it was a joke and they were just sitting back laughing at everyone else getting so pissed, but a few days ago they were the ones throwing fits in QN's. Just sayin'.
I don't really know what to say to all of this, except that if the whole thing had "magically" happen at midnight on April 1st, I, for one, would have been more suspicious then; I would have been less so. Ah well, what is done is done.

Actually i believed it especially at first when Dan, Scot and mell became premiums and i got angry when we had the new comunity leaders with the vode we have been promised. When somebody suggested that it might be a joke i was hoping it was but i wasn't sure.
So i think it worked. It is good to see that the site is not undemocratick and it doesn't depend on Admin's dessisions lol.

Well it was executed well, particularly given some of the extreme and sometimes quite offensive reactions posted by some people. I never knew just how much The Zone means to those people :-)
i for one will be enjoying and maximising my week's Premium Status, but The question is - will certain people (you know who you are!) be offering theirs back in order to avoid hypocrisy? Ah-ha etc
I just loved watching people, Zac and Genius J come immediately to mind, practically shitting themselves and getting so pissed over a stupid April Fools joke. Their reactions were so angry that it was pathetic and completely priceless all at the same time. As for me, I was suspicious for a number of reasons because you don't just kick CL's out for not doing anything, but it got people going!
it caused drama, and that's why i didon't want to spoil it.

Ok I believed it! When I saw that Mel's account was disabled! Mel has always been a good friend to me! I felt so sorry for her when I thought she lost her job! But the free primium membership makes up for it! Thank you for the free membership!

I have to say, just watching some of your reactions, there would be times, when I would just be laughing so hard, it wasn't even funny. There were other times, when I'd be passing msn messages back and forth with fellow CLs, especially when I pretended to leave the site with the...rather colorful way I left it. It was...just very entertaining. lol ok, ok, I'm done.

Ather, as I told you, your's was one of the more convincing aspects of it all. It was awesome, including the people bitching about you being banned.

Actually, in retrospect, it was funny. However, the funniest part was when you guys (the admins and cls) got busted big time.

blimey, well, you got me, hook, line and sinker. i fell for that big time. but, very cleverly done in my opinion, starting the joke early, that, was good. i'm sorry for all of the rude things i've said in my previous posts. dan and mel are good friends, and i got so wound up. I thought things were bad when the story went round that dan had called j something to get himself fired, then the whole chris n has been kicked. thought the admin had totally, lost it. well done people. very well played out.
